Questions to Ask a Wedding Photographer

April_Stuart_265I have done so many meetings with Brides + Grooms lately (yay!) and have a record number of weddings for the coming wedding season (double yay!). I realized that a lot of the questions I was getting asked were the same, so I thought I would share them here with all of you. But don’t worry if you ask these questions when we meet, I love chatting about weddings and my work and have no problem re-answering them for you.

How many other events will you shoot on my wedding day?
I do not shoot any other events/sessions on the day of a wedding and I typically only have one wedding per weekend.

How many images can I expect to see from my wedding? Is there an upper limit to how many photos you will edit/submit?
I shoot approximately 50 submitted images an hour. That being said, I have no upper limit to how many photos you will receive. I want to tell the story of your day, not meet a quota of photographs or limit your images.

How would you describe your photography style?
Throughout most of your wedding day, I tend to blend into the background and shoot your wedding as it unfolds naturally. During the formal portrait session portion of your day, I take a more active role and assist with posed shots that will represent you as a couple and your wedding day.

Where can I view your portfolio and your most recent work?
My portfolio can be viewed on my website while my more recent work is posted here on my blog.

What type of equipment do you use? Do you have equivalent backup equipment?
I use professional grade equipment. Specifically, my primary equipment consists of a Nikon D3s with multiple high quality, low f-stop lenses. I have professional grade backup equipment in case technical glitches arise during your big day. I also run my cameras in ‘full backup’ mode, which means that I use two memory cards that both capture all of your images. This helps ensure your images are captured even if there is a card error on your wedding day.

Do you provide your images in colour or black & white? Are they retouched/edited?
Yes. All of the images you receive are fully retouched and are provided in both colour and black & white.

What is your editing style like? Can I see a before and after of some of your previous work?
I aim to edit minimally. I want to enhance the beauty of the images as it was on your wedding day. I colour correct, sharpen and brighten/darken images as required. I also perform minor edits for blemishes, etc. where required. I have a regular feature on my blog where I showcase before and afters of my work. You can find these by selecting SOOC (which stands for straight out of camera) in the category list of my blog.

Do you have testimonials from recent couples?
Yes. I have a new feature on my blog that highlights recent testimonials (you can find these by selecting Testimonials in the category list). You can also view all of my recent testimonials on my website.

Have more questions? I would love to hear from you!
