Ottawa Studio Newborn Session: Maya

During my baby girl’s first year I only took sessions on weekends with the occasional weeknight engagement session. My husband would take both the baby and the dog and hang out in the basement while I had clients in the studio (he obviously came up for food/baby bottles and to get any other supplies he needed). It worked, but it wasn’t ideal. And that is one of the main reasons why I didn’t photograph all that much in 2023.

That being said, I am so happy with the sessions I did opt to take because I got to capture milestones for our returning couples and families, and meet some wonderful new families. And it is that last category that Sweet Baby Maya’s family falls into.

I had such a lovely afternoon with Maya and her family, and of course Big Sister Abigail, who did a marvelous job for her photos. She gave great smiles and was such a great listener. Seriously, if all big siblings were this cooperative, my job would be so much easier!

And for Maya’s session Mom and Dad didn’t have too many requests. They sent over a few images from my Instagram feed that they really loved and I worked from those to create a mix of girly, rainbow stars, and classic neutrals. And then it was really just this squishy ball of cuteness that did the rest of the work. I mean, this baby was such a delight to work with. She gave me a few little smiles and was more or less chill the entire session. She even managed to give me a number of photos with her eyes open – good job Baby Maya!
