One Year Milestone + Cake Smash Session: Leon

From the outside cake smash sessions likely look a little chaotic. But I design and photograph them at a high speed to be able to ensure that little Babe doesn’t tap out on us before we get all the photos their parents would like. Because let’s be honest, if a one year decides to be done with something, there really isn’t any convincing them otherwise, haha!

All that being said, Leon did a marvellous job during his First Year Portraits and Cake Smash session. He wasn’t the biggest fan of being held during the parents photos portion of the session, but he did it despite that and then had a great time looking at his balloon and props and of course gobbling down that cupcake!

Dad is in the navy so the little sailor suit that Mom brought along was absolutely perfect. And of course when she told me about it, I just had to create a blue setup for his solo photos. Plus I finally got to use my metal boat bucket that I got ages ago!

And just a little reminder to parents, if you don’t want your kiddo to have a ton of sugar during their session, but want them to have a little (aka you don’t want a sugar-free cake) you can always opt for a sweet little cupcake. And as an added bonus, they tend to be easier for kids to hold onto and figure out faster. Sometimes little ones struggle to understand that an entire cake is food and they are allowed to eat it since some kids haven’t eaten cake before and definitely not been given access to an entire one! But I have yet to meet a kid who didn’t know that a cupcake was food and also just for them! Although, I have met a few kids who didn’t like sweet seemingly because they didn’t like their hands getting dirty, but that’s a whole other post.
