I have mentioned before how I grew up in a rather small town not too far from a few quiet large cities. When I was a teenager all I wanted to do was get to those cities as often as I could. Whether or be for shopping, hanging out or just to not be in the small town. I don’t think I ever really realized just how lovely small towns and the like can be, especially at Christmas time.
As much as I love Ottawa (and I really do), and as lovely a job the City does to decorate the core town, it still doesn’t have that adorable feel that a little town or village does. So when Devin + Brad mentioned that they were thinking of having their engagement session done in the little village of Merrickville, I was all for it!
I had visions of wreaths on doors and store window fronts with festive decorations, of planters along the sidewalks and snow covered street lamps. And the village of Merrickville definitely didn’t let me down. It was so Christmas-y and definitely had that small town charm that I love so much!
And if all of that wasn’t awesome enough, it also had the Merrickville ruins along the Rideau Canal! The ruins and old buildings were such a magical backdrop for the start of Devin + Brad’s engagement session (and they helped block some of that bitter cold wind too, so added bonus there!)
But as with so many of our sessions, the real stars were Devin + Brad themselves. They bore the cold wind and snuggled up close and all the while, they made it look absolutely effortless. I would say the only ‘person‘ who could have possibly outshined these two was there very well behaved pup, Wolfie.
