It’s the halfway mark for our end-of-year round-up and today I am sharing my very favourite engagement photos!
I had some pretty awesome couples in front of my camera this year and they rocked their engagement photos! And as an added bonus, I got to shoot in some pretty beautiful locations from nearby woods, streams, and trails to downtown locales and venues, and even spectacular backyards!
Engagement sessions are a great time for me to figure out your best poses and angles, and for you to get a chance to get to see how I work. But more importantly than that it is a chance for us to get to know each other more and I really did have a blast this year strolling through some of my favourite spots in the city with all of these wonderful couples!
I have again split this puppy up in an attempt to make it a little easier to sift through, this time by seasons. So let’s get this party started!!
Spring is my second favourite season because of all the beautiful flowers that pop up (including some of my favs, tulips + lilacs) and I love incorporating them into springtime engagement sessions. It can be a little tricky to line up your session date with these natural factors, but when it works out, it really is magical!
Summer this year was hot … like really hot. There were multiple record breaking days in terms of the heat this year, and it also felt like a record number of rainy days. And if that isn’t entirely accurate, there was definitely a record number of engagement sessions postponed and rescheduled due to less than ideal weather, like far less. But it all worked out in the end as we all rolled with the weather punches, whether they be temperature-based or wetness-based.
You probably already know this, but Fall is by far my favourite season! It’s actually one of the reasons I put up with living in a seasonal climate as I really don’t think I could live somewhere without all those gorgeous Fall colours. Fall this year was pretty weird as for a while it seemed like we wouldn’t get one at all. And then when it did show up, it was joined by the winter snow very shortly thereafter. But our couples made the most of it while it was here and I am so glad they did!
When I started my photography career, I used to have to spend a fair amount of time trying to convince people to do winter engagement sessions. In fact, the first few I did were actually contest winners as all of our booked couples wanted to wait until Spring or Summer for the session. Boy-oh-boy, am I ever glad that has changed as winter is now one of my most popular seasons for engagement sessions and I couldn’t be happier about that!! I love the crisp, clean settings and, of course, all those texture-filled layers we can add to outfits!
And as an added bonus, weather really becomes less of a factor when scheduling sessions as engagement sessions look gorgeous with snow-filled trees and falling snowflakes. Snowstorms, although unpleasant to deal with afterwards (thanks to shoveling and wiping off cars, are a great backdrop for photos. Even if I get stuck in a ditch on the way there, or have to drive at 15km/h because we can’t see more than 10′ in front of the car!
It really is so much fun putting these posts together. I tend to shoot so much that by the end of the year I have somewhat forgotten about some real gems of images that we captured. And I definitely don’t really realize how many sessions I capture each year, so these posts serve as a reminder for that!
A huge thanks to all of the couples who stepped in front of our cameras to mark this milestone in their relationships. And if we haven’t shot your wedding day just yet, we are sooooo looking forward to it this coming year because if it is anything like the above sessions, it is going to be amazing!
