I do a lot of lifestyle newborn session indoors, specifically in the family’s home, so when Courtney + Scott asked if we could do their newborn session in a park I was super on board! I just loved the idea of changing things up a bit and of course the summer time is a great chance to get everyone outdoors.
Their firstborn, Riley, was a part of their stunning wedding day and even signed their wedding certificate — cue the tears. And getting to see him be a big brother to his new little sister Madelyn was so special. He was full of energy and definitely kept his parents on their toes, but he was also a pretty darn good listener, you know, for a toddler, haha!
And Baby Madelyn was so stinking cute! She was a trooper through the entire session and really didn’t care where she was as long as Mom wasn’t too far away from her. She got pretty tired by the end of the session, but who can blame her — it was a lot of activity for a wee little babe after all.
I absolutely loved doing this session outdoors as it not only gave us some great lighting and a natural background for the photos, but it gave Riley a chance to run and burn off any energy that built up while he listened and stayed still for photos. I say stayed still, but the still moments were very short — thank goodness for a fast camera and being used to quick little toddlers.
It was truly a lovely afternoon spent with an even lovelier family. And I can’t think of a better way to have captured the beginning of their lives together as a family of four.
