So I really like my birthday – like really like it. I am actually the type of person to give myself not only a birthday week, but a birthday month! But historically, I have never been able to celebrate my birthday on the actual day. When I was in university, exams always ruined the birthday spirit and all the celebrations would be postponed until after everyone had suffered through all their tests. Then when I was working as an engineer, the end of March was one of the absolute busiest times of the year and everything would once again get pushed a week or so. So when I starting working for just myself, I figured I would be able to set the day aside for celebrations – but that only works if you don’t book anything on the date.
But I didn’t mind sharing the date with Jolani + Josh for even a second! These two are so kind and wonderful that I had no problems postponing my birthday celebrations a little bit to be able to capture their wedding day! And as an added bonus, these amazing people took time out of their special day to highlight my birthday by gifting us a delicious birthday cake – how cool is that?!
I have heard so many photographers say (and I believe I have said it myself as well), you really have to choose the last wedding of the year carefully. The couple has to be just right and the wedding they are planning has to be just a little extra exciting. All of this is needed because after so many extra long days squeezing those creative muscles, you can sometimes feel pretty wiped by the end of the season. So that final couple of the year needs to be fantastic enough to give you that extra bit of energy and excitement. And what can I say other than, I don’t think there was a better couple to end the 2017 season with other than Alyssa + David!
It may have rained on their wedding but Rebecca + Keith definitely didn’t let it dampen their big day. In fact, the pretty much embraced the weather with open arms and went with the flow, which is always my preferred tactic when it comes to rainy wedding days. But from what I saw, there was no amount of rain that could change the gorgeousness of this wedding day and crazy amounts of love that these two share!
Sometimes couples can be a little shy in front of our cameras, at least at first anyway. We can almost always get them to be more comfortable int he spotlight, but it can sometimes take a little while to get used to having cameras around (and us too) and then even more used to the idea of kissing and being all cuddly during a session. But that was never a problem for Rebecca + Keith, not during their engagement session and definitely not on their wedding day.
If there is anything I have learned over the years it is that wedding days can be chaotic and stressful at times. And there have definitely been days where the stress of the couple has passed along to me and gotten me a little stressed out too. But then there are weddings like Nathalie + Marc-Andre’s. They had planned such a peaceful, relaxed, family-filled day and they didn’t let anything sway them from that disposition.
