I love the Ottawa Tulip Festival – this is not new information. In fact, when I was chatting with my parents after my first visit to the festival this year, I mentioned that we had gone and their response was of course.
We had a pretty hard and cold winter this year, which meant that the Tulips were a little later coming up than they had been in previous years. Last year, the tulips were so early that by the time the festival started, they were starting to fade away. It was sad because people didn’t get to enjoy them as much (well, the tourists didn’t), but great for locals like me as I visited the parks before the festival officially started meaning there were significantly smaller crowds.
That was not the case this year, as even during the first weekend there were still several beds full of buds and only a few beds of full blooms. But that’s okay, the festival by far my favourite of the Ottawa festivals and therefore worth wading through the crowds.
