Newborn sessions are a little different than other sessions. They can take a little extra time depending on the baby’s mood as you really can’t tell a newborn what to do. Well I mean, you can tell them what to do, but that doesn’t really mean anything to them. I have learned over the years that the trick to these sessions is to be flexible and adjust to what the little one needs/wants at the time.
When it came time for Kane’s session, he decided that he didn’t really want photos on his own or really to be posed at all. But that’s alright, because as much as this lifestyle session was about Kane, it was also about this new family of four.
Kane is Jenn + Jon’s second little boy and he is getting an absolutely wonderful big brother in Evan. And even though adding a toddler into a newborn session doesn’t always go the way you planned, Evan did such a wonderful job during the shoot. After he got comfortable with me and my camera (them getting to press the button always seems helps with this) he cozied right up with his parents and little brother and was an absolute rock star for the entire time. He even picked out the perfect book to read and although he was rather disinterested with Kane (mostly because he was getting an extra story time), he was really good at letting me know where Baby Kane was and was so very gentle and incredibly sweet with him. Of course, the fact that both of these little boys are super cute didn’t hurt either! And okay, there was a little bribery involved at the end, but when the special treat is raisins (for which Evan was legitimately super excited), I think it’s alright.
