I think we all have our favourite places, both in our homes and outside in the real world. For me, my favourite places are almost all inside my cozy home, where I don’t have to worry about what I’m wearing or how my hair is doing that day, but when it comes to outdoor places – this little forest nestled nearby is definitely high up on the list! And I am so glad Christine + Sam loved it too! Although, the ice-covered hill going in both directions did take the awesomeness of this place down just a tad on this particular day.
Christine emailed me near the end of February letting me know that she was hoping for a winter-wonderland type feel for their engagement session. Now, if you live in the area then you know this already, but Ottawa in March can be a little hit and miss. It can feel (and look) like the middle of January one day, and then feel (and almost look) like the perfect Spring day the next. And with days of warmer weather speckled here and there, the snow can start to turn to slush and more often than not, the awful looking grey slush. But we were so incredibly lucky that so many places still looked wonderfully wintery and these two super people had a great backdrop to capture their engagement photos in.
And I was so incredibly lucky to get to spend the afternoon with them. They are both such kind, gentle souls and I truly love getting to work with people like that! They are also so sweet with each other as Sam supported Christine over all the really slippery bits of ice and snow – which, if I’m being honest, was pretty much 99% of where we walked during this shoot. Hurrah for freeze-thaw cycles that create giant slip and slides all over town! It may have taken a little longer than usual to walk around this little forest, but I am so glad we did as I love the end product!
