Ottawa Studio Newborn Session: Calista

Parents are always worried, and most of the time even apologetic, when their little baby wakes up during their newborn session. Whether it is taking them a while to settle when they first arrive to the studio, or they decide they want a big feeding partway through, during basically every session I explain to parents that it is totally normal. In fact, it is 100% expected.

It is why newborn sessions are scheduled for as long as they are. I don’t actually need all the much time to get through the poses, setups and photos. But brand new babies have a mind of their own and there really isn’t any telling them what to do. I mean, we are bigger than them and we can hold take them wherever we want, but getting to them to do exactly what you want when you want it is a whole other story.

So when Calista, who was actually beautifully sleepy when she first arrived, decided to wake up after her first few photos, it wasn’t anything out of the norm. But luckily, after some wiggle time in the tucked in pose (complete with a full body sneeze), and some cuddles and food of course, she was back to slumber town. So much so that I was able to use a couple headbands and props that take some extra fiddling about to meet my perfectionist needs while she was unwrapped. Most of the time I save them for wrapped photos so I can fiddle to my heart’s content, but Calista was a rock star and let me do what I needed to do to make her accessories as adorable as herself. Good job baby girl!!
