Since leaving my office job and turning my photography business into my sole profession I have prefaced all face-to-face conversations with the fact that I don’t see or talk to many people throughout the workweek. Whether it’s a client consult or a session, the lack of human interaction throughout the day leads me to be a wee bit rambly when I finally meet up with actual people. And of course, that has only gotten amplified since covid came to be. But lucky for me I get to work with some truly delightful, and apparently patient, people because even after all my rambling throughout their session and seemingly never-ending stories as we chatted in the parking lot afterwards, Alexandra + Ryan stuck it out.Continue reading “Baxter Conservation Area Engagement Session: Alexandra + Ryan”
I often get asked by couples planning their engagement session, ‘what happens if it rains?’. And I pretty much always answer with the fact that it is really up to them. Most couples choose to reschedule their session for another day, others like to roll the dice and see if the forecast is wrong, or if there will be a big enough break in the cloud to squeeze their session in. And some like to just roll with the punches and let their session be rainy.
When the forecast turned gloomy before Melanie + Michael’s engagement session, they chose to reschedule their date. So we bumped it a little bit and of course, when we showed up at Watson’s Mill for the new date, the skies were looking pretty dark, ominous, and wet!
Wow, somehow it is only June and yet Dave and I have already captured some truly gorgeous weddings of some of the very best people ever!! Every year we get luckier and luckier with the couples we have as they really are just the bestest ever and I am so eternally grateful that we get to work with them all! And of course Michelle + Colin were no exception. Not only are they super adorable and all around gorgeous people, but they are sweet, thoughtful and funny! I loved basically everything about their wedding day!
The last couple months have been absolutely stuffed with engagement and portrait sessions – and if I am being completely honest, they have been some of my absolute favourites ever!! And this isn’t even because I have gotten to stroll around some of the best locations in Ottawa, or because I am truly loving the images I have been creating, but instead it is because of the amazing people I have gotten to work with. Like Sabrina + Colin, who I feel I could have walked and chatted with for ages!!
So Dave and I spent a couple days on the rooftop of the Brookstreet Hotel having some fun with Make-A-Wish earlier this month. I’ll be sharing more about all of that (including the photos of course) a little later on this week, but for now, the part I want to share is that I of course got sunburnt. My side of the roof was in the shade for almost the entire day, and I swear I used sunscreen – but for the last 1-2 hours of the event, I was in complete sun on the roof of a very tall building.
I mention this because when I showed up to Miranda + Jason’ engagement session, I made sure I was covered from head to toe (well, from neck to toe) to try and make sure my poor skin didn’t get any worse. And despite how uncomfortable it was to walk around in the sun and heat with long sleeves on, it was made all the better by being able to work with two absolutely marvelous people like Miranda + Jason.
