University was amazing, honestly some of the best years of my life were spent there. Despite the long hours of classes, labs and studying, I had a great time and I have some really great memories now. Like when I failed my first class. It sounds like a bad memory, but it was a great learning experience and retaking it over the summer really helped me grow as a student and a person. And there were others, some who, like me, had failed and others who were just getting a head start on things.
Rodney was one of those students. This wasn’t the first time we had met, we had been in other classes together, but we first met during the first few days of school as we were in the same frosh group (go Prairie Fire), but that is a whole different set of stories that I am not going to get into here. So yeah, back to that summer class, it was so much help actually knowing someone there, especially someone as understanding as him. Up until I started the class and chatting with him about it, I had felt like a failure and I was really embarrassed about the whole situation. But he was so awesome and never once made me feel badly about it all. He would even give me a ride back to my car most evenings so I didn’t have to walk off-campus in the dark alone to get back to it each night. That’s just the kind of guy he is, so thoughtful and kind.
So when he got in touch with me last year to chat about his wedding day I was so excited for him! And then when I got the chance to meet Cynthia I couldn’t believe how great they were for each other. We spent about 3 hours catching up and chatting about their lives together. We talked about our time in school and our mutual friends, they told me about their time together and how Rodney proposed on a voyager canoe in the Yukon on an amazing trip to attend another wedding, and of course, about their wedding day plans. After they left, I was so uplifted and overjoyed that he had found someone who was herself so genuinely kind and awesome! I mentioned in their sneak peek how great Cyndi + Rodney are as people and more importantly, how well they compliment one another, and it is worth repeating.
They had their wedding at the Strathmere Lodge, which is such a gorgeous background for such an important day. They personalized their day with tons of awesome DIY touches like their awesome centrepieces and cupcake display and even added truly unique guest favours (delicious cookies and fishing lures). Cyndi had a brooch bouquet that was so unique, I think I might have taken a hundred photos just of it to make sure I captured all the special items in it from her family and trips with Rodney. And they had access to a ’65 Chevy that we had a great time with during their portraits. Their bridal party was an absolute hoot and they may have just had the cutest flower girl and ring bearer yet!! Their wedding day was filled with so much of them and even more with love. Love between them of course, but also for them by all of their friends and family who came to share in their day.
Thank you both so much for letting us be part of your wedding day! We had an absolute blast and I wish you both nothing but happiness in your life together.
