It seems so fitting that it is raining as I write this blog post as that was like an unofficial extra theme of Tarah + Derek’s wedding day. It was raining when we arrived at prep and it poured pretty much the rest of the day. But honestly, I don’t think anyone really cared. I mean, at the end of the day these two wonderful people were married and everyone had a great time – and really, isn’t that what really matters?!
The rain never had a chance of dampening Diana + John’s wedding day! Not only did the sunshine of John’s life brighten up the otherwise dreary day, but just seeing how these two looked at each other and how they made each other laugh with such joy, would bring a smile to just about anyone!
I cannot even begin to properly explain just how perfect Diana + John’s wedding day was as the start of our 2018 season. From being at one of our favourite venues to all the beautiful and personal details so perfectly infused throughout everything, it was truly lovely. But as usual, what that made this wedding day so great weren’t the actual things, but rather the people. Not only are Diana + John so incredibly nice (and funny to boot), but they are absolutely one of the sweetest couples we have had the pleasure and honour of working with over the years and they surrounded themselves with family and friends who are equally as wonderful!
We have been very fortunate to photograph wedding days in some of this city’s best venues. And as much as I absolutely love working with at all of those gorgeous places (and with all of our regular industry peeps), I also really look forward to getting to capture wedding days in atypical locations too. It adds a bit of variety to our season and allows us to incorporate things that really have meaning to our couples (as these atypical venues tend to be chosen for very specific reasons).
Sabrina + Jeff’s wedding ceremony choice of the Beaverbrook Ottawa Public Library out in Kanata was definitely not your regular wedding venue – but I honestly can’t think of a spot that would have been better suited for these two amazing people!
Whenever Dave and I have to write something sentimental as a couple it always goes the same way: I write down some general ideas in jot note form and then Dave improves on it. I get down the main points I think we should get across and any critical details that have to be included. I normally take a pass at writing a few sentences, maybe even an entire paragraph, but once that is done Dave takes all of my thoughts, adds his own and then turns it into an actual written (or spoken) piece and it ends up being beautiful. There are normally some changes on my end, particularly if it is supposed to sound like me and not him, but he is definitely the one that makes it actually sound great. You see, although I can write pretty well (or at least well enough), Dave can write beautifully from the heart. He has a way with that sort of thing whereas I can sometimes struggle with getting my point across.
I mention this because at multiple points during Kristen + Chris’ wedding day I was reminded of Dave’s heart-spoken nature as Chris had the same abilities. When he spoke about his family and of course his new bride, every word was said with intention and his words were so incredibly meaningful and completely heartwarming.
