When it comes to big brothers and sisters, I have so far found that it is about 50/50 as to whether or not they are interested in their new baby’s newborn session. And for those that aren’t into the shoot, it is another 50/50 as to whether or not they are happy about the whole thing. For Baby Dominic’s in-home session, Big Sister Caroline was on the not so great side of both of those odds as she wasn’t really interested in the session and also not happy about someone being around the family.

Ottawa Lifestyle Family Photography Session: The Lillico-Thompsons
I don’t know about you, but I don’t actually work very well in a completely silent area. I need something going to be able to be my most productive. When I worked in an office, that was pretty much always music, but now that my boss is super duper cool, I get to watch TV (get it, my boss is cool because I am my boss — haha, I am so funny! 😉 ). That being said, whenever I need to write anything, I just can’t do it if there are voices coming at me, meaning TV is out and actually most music is too as the lyrics distract me from writing. So, long story short, I am sitting here writing about this truly amazing sessions I had with Kristina, Joel and their adorable little boy Zach while listening to some great gaming soundtracks!

Technically we had already postponed this session by the time I headed out of the house towards Mariah + Ben for their lifestyle newborn and family shoot. The weather was supposed to be quite bad complete with not only rain, but thunderstorms, and because of that we had decided to move the session to the following week. But about 2 hours before I was supposed to leave, the sky was still absolutely lovely and the forecast changed entirely – well, it changed for the 1-2 hours the actual shooting would take place and that was good enough for everyone involved! And I am so very happy we went ahead with the session, not only was the weather that afternoon beautiful, the weather next weekend was not.

It took Little Baby Jakub about 2 minutes to make a big stinker after I got him all wrapped up! He just seemed to know exactly when the wrap was done so he could get started, haha. Fortunately for me, my swaddles tend to keep most of the smell in, but then again that just means when it does come time to start unwrapping, there is an extra big surprise for all of us!!

It can be a little hard to predict how photos with both a 2.5 year old and newborn baby are going to go. Sometimes big brother is super into it, and other times the mix of the new baby and new environment can make them feel a little camera shy. But no worries about that here because both Elliott + Baby Frederick did an absolutely amazing job!! So much so that their photos together fill my heart with so much joy!
