This styled shoot was literally everything I had dreamed of and so much more! Adding an extra day to my Arkansas trip was a million per cent worth it because I got to work with some extremely talented people and cross off something from my photography bucket list (doing a styled session while traveling). And to think it all started off with me leaving my comfort zone for a few hours one day back in January.
Pretty much every photographer know about Golden Hour. it’s that gorgeous time in the evening as sunset approaches where the sun is lower in the sky and creates a nice warm glow that lights subjects up so beautifully. It is my favourite time to do engagement sessions as it really is just so wonderful to shoot in! Golden Hour is so well known that even a lot of our clients have heard of it and are looking for the type of images we create using that light.
As soon as I mentioned that I preferred to start sessions later in the day, Melissa + Rami knew why right away. And as the sun started to dip beneath the horizon, we were able to create even more spectacular images! And as I mentioned in their sneak peek photos, these two really know how to sizzle in front of a camera!!
A Plan B is one of the most important things I think you can have when planning your wedding. Normally the backup plan is in case it rains. So considering things like, where your outdoor ceremony will be moved to, and what indoor or covered location can you use for your family photos, etc. For us it often includes whipping out our collection of umbrellas, towels and things to put under long dresses to keep them off the ground (as much as possible at least). We have been doing this for a while now and we pretty much know the options for when the weather is less than desirable on a wedding day.
But what about an engagement session? Well, more often than not, our couples decide to reschedule their session for a less wet day. Other times we roll with it and get some different (and cool) images. Either way, there are still loads of options. So what Plan B do you whip out when you show up to your engagement session location and there is a huge festival being set up right smack dab in the middle of it? Because that is exactly what happened to Michelle + Colin’s engagement session a little earlier this month.
When I showed up at the Arc Hotel to start Jenn’s bridal prep I walked into a room of cool, calm and collected ladies (and one of the cutest flowergirls ever, who let me know exactly who her mommy was and that I was not to steal her). They were all just so relaxed and positive, it was an absolutely joy to be around. Mix that with the absolutely stunning details Jenn had set aside for me (look at those shoes!!!) and it was definitely the absolute best way to start a wedding day.
There are definitely venues and locations around the city that are on to shoot list and pretty much ever since it opened a few years ago, Evermore has been a venue on that list. So when Ellen + Graham first reached out to me about photographing their wedding there, I was super excited to get a chance to capture a day at this stunning venue. But then I got to meet and chat with this wonderful couple, and my excitement quickly changed from being venue-based to being all about getting to work with these two amazing people as they started their married life together.
