The original plan was for Sweet Little Ella to have a cake smash outside in the Arboretum followed by a big family birthday party at home a couple weeks later. And although she did have a cake smash in the Arboretum, thanks to Covid, her birthday party was a quiet affair at home with Mom and Dad. But it was all still great fun, and hey, this way she got to smash multiple cakes and donut towers … well, she got to touch them all slightly and then get really upset about it – same thing right?!

Jonathan once joked that I should get a punch card like they have at coffee shops for clients, like themselves, who come back year after year for their photo sessions. I do love getting catch up with our couples and families each year, especially when they are filled with people like Marie-France + Jonathan, who are just about the most thoughtful people out there. And their little girl Mackenzie just gets cuter and cuter every time I see her!!
To be honest, I was a little anxious about Karrington + Adam’s engagement session. Don’t get me wrong, I was super excited to get to hang out with them again and even more pumped to meet their puppers, Honey. I was a touch anxious because it had been sooooo very long since I had done a couple session. In fact, I had only just started being allowed to photograph any sort of session.
I sometimes marvel at just how small the world really is, or at least just how small Ottawa and the surrounding area is. I grew up in a small town and went to school in an even smaller area. So when I moved to Ottawa for school I had it in my head that I would likely never see people from my hometown. Thinking back, this logic makes no sense whatsoever. My hometown is less than an hour away from Ottawa, and I knew of multiple people who were coming to the same university, or one of the other post secondary schools in the city. But, nonetheless, it was the idea I had in my head, so when I just kept running into people from back home, I found it weird.
When photographers were officially allowed to work again I was completely overjoyed! I had missed my clients so much and I don’t think I missed any more than the wee little babies!! And honestly, I can’t think of a better family to kick things off with than Christine + John and their brand new little baby girl Avery.
