Ottawa Arboretum First Birthday Portraits + Cake Smash: Ella

The original plan was for Sweet Little Ella to have a cake smash outside in the Arboretum followed by a big family birthday party at home a couple weeks later. And although she did have a cake smash in the Arboretum, thanks to Covid, her birthday party was a quiet affair at home with Mom and Dad. But it was all still great fun, and hey, this way she got to smash multiple cakes and donut towers … well, she got to touch them all slightly and then get really upset about it – same thing right?!

I first met Ella just over a year ago for her newborn session. She was the absolute sweetest then and it really was such a treat to get to have her in the studio. As I mentioned in that post, her Mom and I worked together for a time in my engineering career and we got to spend a bit of the newborn session catching up. I may not have liked that job, but there were some kind and thoughtful people who worked alongside me and Lee was definitely in that group!

When she was in for her newborn session, I was completely obsessed with her crazy head of hair! And a year later, it is such as amazing and somehow, even crazier!! Seriously guys, this may be the best head of hair I have ever seen on a one year old. But I think my favourite thing about Ella now, is her sweetness. She really is the most darling little girl and with those great big, beautiful eyes I think she would warm even the coldest of hearts, especially if she starts bobbing and dancing to her parents’ singing – so freaking cute!

Given the level of adorableness and sweetness she has now as a toddler, I just know this little cutie is going to be such a very kind of thoughtful person as she grows up. But I mean, given her parents, that really shouldn’t be a surprise at all!
