I’m going to be completely honest here, I was so freaking nervous leading up to this family session. Not because I thought they would do poorly, or because I couldn’t think of interactions for them to do during their session. No, I was nervous because I know this family and I know just how shy and quiet Little Kane can be, and I was so worried that I wouldn’t be able to get a single smile out of him during the shoot. But I am oh so very happy to report that the entire family was full of smiles and giggles all session long!!
I know it’s not always possible to get little ones to smile, especially when they already have shy personalities around new people, but I also know how much it can stress parents out for their kids to be having a hard time getting comfortable at sessions. And that stress not only shows in the photos, but it is also a really cyclical thing where a not smiling or unhappy kid gets parents stressed, and their stress gets kids even less likely to pop out of their shell, and so on and so forth. It’s a tough situation and one that can sometimes be tricky to navigate. But fortunately for all of us, it wasn’t the situation for this session!
I also really wanted happy smiling littles one for this family because they are dear friends of ours and amazingly supportive when it comes to my business too. I have been lucky enough to capture so many milestones for Jenn + Jon, from their wedding day to when they brought home their boys, so getting to capture their family when their boys are at this young age was so much fun!
And, as an added bonus, we did these family photos in the same location as we did their first look + portraits on their wedding day! And although the lighting made it so we couldn’t duplicate exact photos (we did their wedding photos in the afternoon, so completely different direction of light compared to a morning family session), we were still able to use similar spots, which I think it pretty darn neat!
